Top of the South Community Foundation (‘the foundation’) has confirmed a $6,000 donation to the Nelson District Parent Centre Inc to assist with expanding its post-natal classes supporting new parents.
This donation comes through the the foundation relationship with The Tindall Foundation (‘TTF’), supporting the Family and Social Services sector across the top of the South Island.
Established in 1977, Nelson District Parent Centre is run by volunteers with the aim to help parents be the best they can through education and support. Michelle Hunt from the Parents Centre said that the six-week Baby & You course is a must-do for anyone new to parenthood, and its fantastic that this donation enables us to offer the course for free. Getting this grant is the highlight of our years she says.
the foundation Chair, Julie Varney, said “the focus of Nelson District Parent Centre is a very good fit with the funding priorities of our Family and Social Services programme. A key component of the Parent Centre is to support families, not only with education prior to having a baby, but also in the months after the birth. We know that this time is a major adjustment for families. The education and input that the Parent Centre provides is key to helping families make that adjustment. This funding will ensure that all families wanting to have access to this service are able to do so. There will also be classes targeted to local refugee community.”
