Seven Nelson Tasman non-profit groups received grants
The seven Nelson Tasman non-profit groups which received grants from a local foundation are already putting their money to good use. The Top of the South Community Foundation (the foundation) hosted an event for its successful grant recipients of 2013 at Crowe Horwath in Richmond. The organisations are Murchison Theatre Trust, Alzheimers Takaka-Nelson, Motueka Victim Support, the Hearing Association, Nelson Multicultural Council and both Richmond and Wakatu Riding for the Disabled. Richmond Fresh Choice provided drinks and nibbles for the event.
the foundation chairman John said the groups grant this year’s grant was double the amount of last year.
We are thrilled to be able to celebrate with all seven charities and hope each grant will help in the short term.”
Bridget Thompson from the Hearing Association said it would spend its grant on expanding outreach clinics into Tasman. Pam Smale from Motueka Victim Support said it would distribute two pamphlets with its funding.
After a street appeal two weeks ago, we were able to top up the remaining amount needed for a third pamphlet.”
Robyn of Richmond Riding for the Disabled said:
We’ve bought stirrups for our horses already.”
Murchison Theatre fixed and painted its roof, Alzheimers Takaka is funding a workshop for families living with Alzheimers, Wakatu Riding for the Disabled will be buying nutritional horse feeds before the end of the year and Nelson’s Multicultural Council will spend the money on workshops which will introduce the history and culture of the Nelson region for migrants with English as their second language.
Bequests & endowment Funds helping in Nelson Tasman
Launched in March, 2010, the foundation invests money from donations, bequests and endowments and distributes the income back to the community, forever. The trust’s initial focus was on increasing these funds, but having received several endowments in the past few years, they have a modest amount available for distribution.
The foundation is committed to supporting registered charities whose activities are focused on the Tasman District and Nelson City geographic areas and in the areas of community and social services, sport and recreation, music, art and culture, or festivals and events that benefit the community. It is administered by volunteer trustees who share a passion for the region.
the foundation wants to attract funds from local bequests and endowment funds for either general or more specific named distributions throughout Nelson and Tasman.
