Top of the South Community Foundation (‘the foundation’) has confirmed a donation of $6,000 to the Nelson Community Foodbank Trust to assist with the cost of supplying fuel vouchers to volunteers.
This donation comes through the the foundation relationship with The Tindall Foundation (‘TTF’), supporting the Family and Social Services sector across the top of the South Island.
Nelson Community Foodbank Trust provides support and assistance to families and individuals experiencing short term financial hardship. A collaboration between social service agencies, the Foodbank prepares nutritious food parcels which are delivered by volunteers to approved applicants.
the foundation Chair, Julie Varney, said “the foundation recognised the valuable contribution that Nelson Community Foodbank Trust makes in our community. Last year, over 3,900 people were assisted with 1,478 food parcels. The service is heavily reliant on volunteers who deliver the food parcels 5 days a week. This funding grant will provide petrol vouchers to the volunteers who use their own vehicles to deliver the food parcels and helps to ensure the ongoing viability of the service.”
