Brook Waimārama Sanctuary Community Group Fund

Restoring a thriving native ecosystem while building longterm ecological resilience and deepening community connection to conservation.

About the fund

Brook Waimārama Sanctuary has established a Community Group Fund with the Top of the South Community Foundation to ensure its vital conservation work continues for generations to come.

Brook Waimārama Sanctuary is a community-led conservation project dedicated to restoring a 690-hectare native forest ecosystem in Nelson, New Zealand.

Protected by a pest-proof fence, the Sanctuary provides a safe habitat for native wildlife, like little-spotted kiwi, tuatara, orange-fronted parakeet as well as, reptiles, and invertebrates.

Funds generated supports vital conservation activities such as pest control, species reintroductions, ecological monitoring, habitat restoration, and environmental education programmes.

Through strong community engagement and volunteer involvement, the Sanctuary works to protect biodiversity, strengthen climate resilience, and inspire current and future generations to value and care for Aotearoa’s unique natural heritage.
