Big Brothers Big Sisters Fund

Enabling life-changing mentoring relationships to ignite the potential of taiohi/young people.

About the fund

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nelson-Tasman has established a Community Group Fund with the Top of the South Community Foundation to ignite the potential of young people for generations to come.

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Nelson-Tasman provides mentors to around 170 young people across the region who need extra support due to their personal circumstances.

Volunteer mentors spend 1–3 hours each week with their young person, doing activities they both enjoy and building a supportive friendship. This helps build self-esteem, develop communication and social skills, and gives young people experiences and perspectives they might not otherwise have.

Through our support, mentors offer a positive and consistent influence - igniting the potential within every young person they meet.

We recruit, assess, train and support our mentors from the initial match with a young person, through to ongoing supervision, celebrations and match events to keep every relationship strong and on track.
