Fund for Golden Bay
21 April, 2023

Community Foundations typically operate funds to either support individual’s wishes, to support a specific organisation, or to support a wider but targeted impact.  Individual’s funds typically attract one-time capital, though organisation and impact funds are typically ‘seeded’ with initial donor capital to attract further capital over time.

Our Fund for Golden Bay was generously seeded by a Golden Bay based couple, “to benefit the Golden Bay Community in areas such as, but not limited to, improving health infrastructure, cultural and arts, environmental, and sporting activities etc.”

The Golden Bay / Mohua region is at the North-West of the Top of the South Island.  It is well known for its vibrant, artistic communities, and as a paradise for nature lovers.  The Bay itself is a huge, sandy bay, and the region includes Farewell Spit - 34km long around the upper reaches of the bay, and - on the Tasman Sea side, Wharariki Beach.  The area includes parts of both Abel Tasman National Park and Kahurangi National Park, and the townships of Takaka, Pohara, Onekaka, and Collingwood.

Key challenges for community impact in the region relate to it being very large and sparsely populated.  A number of charities do great work to overcome those challenges.

At your Community Foundation we’re excited about supporting great impact in the region, and we encourage anyone to add further donor capital to this fund.  Please get in touch or donate via our website.  You can remain anonymous if that’s your preference. https://www.topsouthfoundation.org.nz/donate/.
