New CEO Appointed for Top of the South Community Foundation
7 November, 2025

The Board of the Top of the South Community Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Chelsea Routhan as its new Chief Executive, commencing on 1 December 2025.

Chelsea brings extensive experience in community leadership, strategic development, and organisational growth. Over the past decade, she has held senior roles in the community and social sectors, most recently serving as National Operations Director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Zealand. In that role, she led national system development, supported the establishment of new branches, and strengthened partnerships that help mentoring programmes thrive across Aotearoa.

Born and raised in Nelson, Chelsea says stepping into the CEO role is both exciting and deeply meaningful. “It is a privilege to take up a role that supports community-led outcomes across the region,” says Chelsea.

“I’m looking forward to working alongside the team and building strong relationships with donors, iwi, partners and community organisations throughout Te Tauihu as we continue to grow our impact.”

Board Chair, Jane Peterson, says Chelsea’s appointment reflects an important moment in the Foundation’s development. “Chelsea brings a thoughtful and collaborative leadership style, along with strong experience in building partnerships and growing impact. Her understanding of community, both locally and nationally, will help guide the Foundation as it continues to expand its reach across Te Tauihu.”

Chelsea will be based in Nelson and will spend her first months in the role meeting with key partners, supporters, and community organisations across the Top of the South.
