The Choice to Give Where You Live: Introducing Super Legacy
18 March, 2026

A new way for NZ Super recipients to create lasting local impact — right here in Te Tauihu.

Local. Living. Giving. Super Legacy is a new way to give back to the region you call home.

Giving Where You Live

The Top of the South is more than just where we live. It is our home, our connection, and the place we want to see thrive for generations to come.

In the Top of the South, we are defined by the places we share,  the quiet resilience of our rural townships, the vibrant arts and culture of Nelson, the incredible coastlines of Marlborough and Tasman. We are a region built on connection, community, and a deep pride in where we live.

But behind the scenes of our beautiful region, many of our local support networks are being stretched. From environmental groups working to protect our coastline to health services supporting our ageing population, the need for stable, local funding has never been greater.

That’s what led us to a new idea,  one shaped by conversations with people right here in our region.

A New Kind of Legacy

While NZ Superannuation is essential income for many older New Zealanders, some people find they do not rely on it to meet their day-to-day living costs. For those people, Super can become a meaningful and practical way to give back to the community they care about.

Super Legacy was born from a simple question: what if that surplus stayed right here at home?

Super Legacy is a way to turn your donating into lasting local support. Your donation directly funds the Foundation’s operations -  and a strong Foundation means stronger communities. That means better grants, better outcomes, and a region you can see flourishing around you. Health services better supported. Arts programmes thriving. Young people with more opportunities. The environment better protected. This is how giving locally creates lasting benefit for Te Tauihu, for generations.

Local. Living. Giving.

We often think of a legacy as something left behind. Super Legacy offers a different approach.  It’s local. You sustain the Foundation and a strong Foundation means stronger communities across Te Tauihu.

It’s living. You watch it happen. The programmes funded. The organisations supported. The region thriving. It’s giving. Your legacy, built today, lasting forever. Together, we build something that will be here long after we all are.

How Super Legacy Works

Super Legacy is designed to be simple, transparent, and entirely on your terms.

  • Flexible & Voluntary: Choose the amount — whether it’s a portion of your fortnightly payment or a one-off donation. Pause or change your giving at any time.
  • Sustaining the Mission: Your donation directly funds the Foundation’s operations — and a strong Foundation means stronger communities. It funds the local knowledge, expertise and relationships needed to get grants to the right places, year after year.
  • Tax Benefits: As a registered charity, your donations are eligible for a 33.3 percent tax credit. We provide annual receipts to make this process straightforward.

Be Part of the Super Legacy Founding Donors Circle

Every great movement starts with a few people who are willing to lead by example. As we launch Super Legacy, we are looking for a small group of local leaders to join our Super Legacy Founding Donors Circle.

Being a Founding Donor isn’t about the size of the donation. It’s about vision,  believing in the future of the Top of the South and choosing to invest in it today. You sustain the Foundation, and a strong Foundation means stronger communities. You watch it happen. And your legacy, built today, lasts forever.

Ready to Make a Difference?

Your Super can supercharge our mission. Let’s talk about how.

Chelsea Routhan, our CEO, is currently meeting with locals for informal conversations about Super Legacy. No pressure, just a coffee and a conversation about the place we call home.
