Richmond Riding for the Disabled has established a Community Group Fund with the Top of the South Community Foundation to support therapeutic horse riding for generations to come.
Richmond Riding for the Disabled provides interaction with horses, which is a proven therapy that develops, improves and/or promotes many aspects such as balance and co-ordination, muscle tone, concentration, self-esteem, perception and spatial awareness, communication, social skills, independence and encourages decision making.
Each rider has an individualised structured goal based programme, which is supervised by a qualified coach and assisted by specially trained therapists, volunteers and horses, who must meet ongoing training requirements.
The warmth and three-dimensional movement of the horse is the key therapy tool used in our Group, the movement is transmitted through the rider's body, gradually making the rider more relaxed improving muscle tone, balance, posture and co-ordination.
Our sessions are designed to enhance and improve physical, psycological and social abilities as well as provide recreational and educational opportunities.
